- Brief Summary
1. Regular practice of yoga is known to produce a number of benefits in physical and mental health. However, individuals with mental health disorders in the community are not able to attend the sessions in tertiary centers of yoga due to time constraint, logistics issues or social barriers and stigmas. Virtual Yoga is a process where webcams are used to relay sessions of yoga from one source to multi-point video conferencing centres using the software “Skype†or “Hangouts†via internet. In this proposed research, we are testing the feasibility of virtual-yoga practice on individuals with mental health disorders in the community. The subjects, under the guidance of a trained yoga therapist will be encouraged to attend yoga sessions at the NIMHANS Centre for Well-Being (NCWB) on a particular time and day of the week for the first 15 days after which they will be encouraged to practice yoga in their respective homes for the next 15 days through virtual yoga classes conducted using Skypee (therapist being in one centre and clients being in their homes. The clients would be assessed on their well-being, quality of life, satisfaction and virtual training experience quantitatively and qualitatively on Day 1, Day 15 and Day 30. Suitable Parametric and Non-Parametric Tests will be used to analyse the quantitative data. Manual Content Analysis will be used to analyse the qualitative data.
