This study included uncontrolled T2DM patients aged over 60 years who were diagnosed by a physician and accepted this study. The patients have at least 10 natural teeth and have at least one tooth of the right maxillary molar, left maxillary molar, maxillary anterior tooth, right mandibular molar, left mandibular molar, and mandibular anterior tooth. The periodontal screening and recording (PSR) of the patients were ≥ code 3.
The patients with serious systemic disease or complications including stroke, severe heart disease, hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic nonketotic syndrome (HHNS), severe neuropathy, end stage renal failure on haemodialysis, and serious mental disorder were excluded. Patients who have manual dexterity problems, patients who depend on caretaker, have a communicable disorder such as deafness and blindness, and patients who cannot speak Thai were also excluded.
