简要总结

End-stage renal Disease (ESRD) represents a significant global health challenge, with an increasing number of patients requiring long-term hemodialysis for survival. The burden of care for these patients is immense and often falls upon family members who act as primary caregivers (1). In India, caregivers are members of the family, and extremely limited alternative facilities are available where family members are preferred for caring. In India, most families prefer to care for the ill person at all stages of illness. Needless to say, the quality of life of caregivers is badly affected. As a result of caring for a sick person, caregivers are more likely to cut back on their free time and interests, spend less time with their loved ones, and even quit their jobs. They frequently refrain from social interaction and as a result, feel lonely. This challenge that caregivers face demands adaptation i.e., change in the emotional, intellectual, and behavior of caregivers to face the adversity. The Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) offers a theoretical framework to assess how caregivers adapt to the continuous stressors associated with ESRD caregiving. Roy viewed a person as an open system. The system responds to environmental stimuli through the cognate and regulator coping mechanisms. The responses occur through one or more of four adaptive modes which are: (a) physiological mode, (b) self-concept mode, (c) role function mode, and (d) interdependence mode (4). Understanding where a caregiver is located i.e., the stage in this model is taken up in this study, and the role of homeopathic management in improving their adaptation is evident in the stages. The Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) is a validated tool that measures the multidimensional impact of caregiving on individuals. It assesses aspects such as time dependence, developmental burden, physical burden, social burden, and emotional burden, providing a comprehensive evaluation of the challenges caregivers face. Due to the lack of any research on caregivers of ESRD patients, this study aims to assess their adaptation using the Roy Adaptation Model, quantify their burden using the Caregiver Burden Inventory, and explore the efficacy of homeopathic interventions in alleviating caregiver stress.
