This sub-study is a part of a trial titled “Impact of PromotingCommunity Initiated Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) for Low Birth Weight Infantsâ€,(CTRI/2016/01/006524; REF/2015/12/010221). The main objective of thissub-study is to evaluate the impact community initiated of KMC on equity andpoverty in Haryana, India. The primary outcomes of the study are ascertainmentof the distribution of mortality bysocioeconomic status, ascertainment of health expenditures for seeking care forthe study baby and the number (%) of households that experience catastrophic healthexpenditures due to health care seeking for the study baby from post enrolmentto 6 months of age in the intervention and control arms.
Data on household assets arecollected prospectively for all households in the main trial. An asset indexwill be constructed from these data and used to classify households in theintervention and control group by socio-economic status. We will summarizeinequalities in mortality in both groups by the Concentration Index and byConsecration Curves.

- •Low Birth Weight singleton or twins or triplets babies (≥1500 to ≤2250 g) included in the trial titled “Impact of Promoting Community Initiated Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) for Low Birth Weight Infantsâ€, (CTRI/2016/01/006524; REF/2015/12/010221).
- •who are either born at home or discharged from hospital, but KMC not initiated in the hospital.
排除标准
- •1.Infant unable to feed 2.Infant has breathing problem or is less active 3.Gross congenital malformations 4.Mother does not intend to stay in the study area for the next 6 months.
