Primary Endpoint
To measure the width of Palatoglossal space ultrasonographically and correlate with difficulty in mask ventilation in patients undergoing elective surgery under general anaesthesia

Study Overview

Brief Summary

The study aims to evaluate whether preoperative ultrasound measurement of the palatoglossal space can help to predict the adequacy of mask ventilation in patients undergoing elective surgery under general anaesthesia. Difficult mask ventilation can lead to complications, so identifying patients at risk before anaesthesia  is important. By assessing this space using ultrasound, we aim to provide  a simple , non invasive tool to improve patient safety during anaesthesia

18.00 Year(s) to 55.00 Year(s) (—)

Inclusion Criteria

  • Patients of either sex and age 18 to 55 years posted for elective surgery under general anaesthesia requiring endotracheal intubation.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Cervical spine instability Required rapid sequence intubation Previous history of difficult intubation Edentulous patients Anatomical and pathological deformity of face and neck.

Outcomes

Primary Outcomes

To measure the width of Palatoglossal space ultrasonographically and correlate with difficulty in mask ventilation in patients undergoing elective surgery under general anaesthesia

Time Frame: During preoperative period and intraoperative period

Secondary Outcomes

  • Preoperative predictors of difficult mask ventilation(Measurement of tongue thickness in predicting difficult mask ventilation & difficult laryngoscopy)
