Brief Summary

With the help of a questionnaire on relationship quality, three different expressions that can be summarized as relationship quality were surveyed. General life satisfaction was also assessed using a self-report questionnaire. A statistically significant difference was shown between borderline patients and healthy subjects with regard to life satisfaction. There were also statistically significant differences with regard to the quality of relationships. With regard to the correlation between the variables of life satisfaction and the variables of relationship quality (closeness, trust and anxiety), a positive trend in the variable of closeness can be observed in borderline patients, but this is not significant. In the control group (nursing staff), a non-significant positive trend was also found for the proximity variable. That is, the more closeness can be felt in the relationship, the higher the life satisfaction. In relation to the variable anxiety, a negative correlation could be shown in the control group, i.e. the less anxiety is felt in the relationship, the more life satisfaction increases. With regard to the variable trust, a positive correlation could be shown, i.e. the more trust is felt in a relationship, the more life satisfaction increases. In the case of borderline patients, no significant correlation could be shown in relation to the variable anxiety and trust. Further follow-up studies are necessary to reach a conclusive result. In addition, the present study was able to classify the borderline patients into the attachment style "anxious-ambivalent", while the healthy subjects were assigned to the "secure attachment style" (Bartholomew, 1990, Collins, 2008; cited in Schmidt et al., 2016).
