Inclusion Criteria

The following inclusion criteria were applied:
-Diagnostic criteria of peri-implantitis; peri-implant bone loss > 2mm, probing depth > 5mm, bleeding on probing/suppuration and presence of plaque (Lang et al. 2004)
-No history of active (surgical) treatment for peri-implantitis
-Bone loss that occurred apical to the reference point established based on implant system when there is no radiographic data that can be used as the baseline
The reference points according to the implant system are as follows:
Branemark type: First thread
Straumann type: 2.8mm(standard) / 1.8mm(standard plus) below the implant shoulder
Astra tech type: 1.8mm below the implant shoulder

Exclusion Criteria

The following exclusion criteria were applied:
-Presence of pregnancy or lactation.
-Taking drugs that can affect periodontal disease (phenytoin, cyclosporine, and calcium channel blockers).
-Taking Coumadin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
-Presence of diabetes mellitus, smoking (except former smoking with cessation at least 10
-Those who is allergies with tetracycline.
-Those using chlorhexidine or any other mouth rinse.
-Those who have taken antibiotics within the previous 3 months.
