- Living in deprived neighbourhood
- Dutch, Turkish or Moroccan ethnicity
- Elevated waist circumference (>=94cm for men and >=80cm for women)
- Sufficient fluency in the Dutch language
- Treatment for known hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus type 2, cardiovascular diseases and/or chronic renal failure (medication use)
- High value for systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides, total or LDL cholesterol
- Any mental or physical disability that will hinder participation in the lifestyle intervention
- Participation in another regular vigorous exercise and/or diet programme targeting weight loss
- Pregnant or lactating

Name Time Method <p>Secondary outcomes are the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and the change in<br /><br>the values of the other components of the metabolic syndrome (fasting<br /><br>triglycerides, HDL cholesterol and glucose, and blood pressure). In addition<br /><br>other relevant risk factors for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and<br /><br>kidney failure will be measured, i.e. HbA1c, BMI (weight and height), hip<br /><br>circumference, total cholesterol, body fat percentage and medication use.</p><br>
