Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Singleton neonates that did not have any birth complication which require hospital admission;
  • Whose mothers were aged 18 and above (for the purpose of avoiding further requirement of parental consent and legal issues);
  • Who would stay in the catchment area for at least 30 days after giving birth (for follow\-up purpose); and
  • Who were willing to provide informed consent.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Neonates on whom substances other than the intervention were applied to the cord at the first contact.
  • Neonates who were not visited within three days after birth
