Inclusion Criteria
1.All adult patients scheduled for elective major abdominal surgeries
2.with an anticipated duration of 2 h or more
3.a moderate to high risk of postoperative pulmonary complications, defined by an ARISCAT risk score of 26 points or more, were eligible for recruitment.
Exclusion Criteria
1.ASA IV
2.Emergency surgeries
3.Morbid obesity (BMI >= 40)
4.obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome
5.pregnant patients
6.Any contraindications to NIV or HFNC Therapy
