Children and adolescents between the ages of 0 and 14 years with a diagnosis of epilepsy, who received video-EEG-monitoring from 1999 to 2018 at the Freiburg Epilepsy Center for clinical reasons. At least one seizure must have occurred during the monitoring. Furthermore, at least a 10-minute interictal period prior to the analyzed seizure must have been recorded in the examined patients in order to obtain a meaningful measurement of the basal heart rate.
Exclusion criteria include age over 14 years, the occurrence of no or only subclinical seizures and a diagnosed independent cardiac disease.

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Detailed description and analysis of HRV in children and adolescents with epilepsy.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Identification of a subgroup of patients who are statistically more likely to have lower HRV and may therefore be at increased risk of SUDEP.
