Patients of Wirral Hospital Trust aged 0-15 years, requiring: an emergency admission for pyrexia, diarrhoea and vomiting and respiratory difficulties, or considered suitable for early discharge by a Consultant.
Children considered unsuitable by the GP, assessing doctor or nurse. Patients unwilling or unable to participate. Patients who do not have telephone access (unless the scheme mobile phone is available). Children registered with a GP outside the Health Authority.

Name Time Method <br> Comparative clinical effectiveness as measured by readmission rate within three months was used as a proxy for parental coping with illness.<br> Length of stay/care and comparative satisfaction of both patients and carers.<br>
