- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method To assess changes in acid-base balance, capillary blood samples are taken every hour during the blood gas parameters pH, [HCO3]-, BE and saO2. One blood gas analysis is carried out before entering the hypoxic chamber and twelve during exposure to simulated altitude. Furthermore, heart rate and oxygen saturation are measured hourly using a puloximetry.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method The amount of eliminated urine and associate urinary pH are assessed to describe hypoxia-induced diuretic effects. To asses possible metabolic effects of nutrition on acid-base status, nutrition protocols are completed.
