Association between body composition, muscle strength and functional performance in subjects with chronic lung disease in dakshina kannada; A Cross-sectional Study
- Conditions
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with acute lower respiratory infection,
- Registration Number
- CTRI/2023/09/057877
- Lead Sponsor
- Kasturba Medical College
- Brief Summary
In this study, Analysis ofbody composition such as body weight, body fat percentage, BMI, segmentalsubcutaneous fat, skeletal muscle percentage, resting metabolism, visceral fatlevel, and body age will be done using KARADA Bioelectrical Impedance Analyser.Measurement of peripheral muscle strength of lower extremity muscle groups willbe done by using a Microfet handheld dynamometer. Subjects will be assessed forrespiratory muscle strength, i.e, maximal inspiratory pressure(PIMax) andmaximal expiratory pressure(PEMax) using MicroRPM. Functional performance willbe assessed using a six-minute walk test. The data collected will bestatistically analysed and the results interpreted will be measuredaccordingly.
The study helps in understanding the association between physical performance and variablesof muscle strength and body composition will help in exploring multifactorial interventionprogrammes for the restoration of functional performance in people with chroniclung disease.
