Study Overview

Brief Summary

This study evaluates the effects of kinesio taping applied to the quadriceps femoris on delayed-onset muscle soreness, lower-extremity range of motion, and explosive jump performance following a fatiguing exercise protocol in healthy sedentary males.

Detailed Description

Participants undergo a fatiguing sit-to-stand exercise protocol to induce exercise-induced muscle damage. Using a controlled crossover design with repeated measurements, participants complete both a kinesio taping (KT) condition and a non-taping (N-KT) control condition, separated by a 96-hour washout period. Measurements including subjective muscle soreness, active range of motion of the hip, knee, and ankle joints, thigh circumference, and squat jump performance are evaluated at baseline, 24, 48, and 72 hours post-exercise.

Accepts Healthy Volunteers
Yes

Inclusion Criteria

  • •Healthy male participants aged between 18 and 25 years.
  • •Individuals with a sedentary lifestyle, defined as no regular exercise participation during the past six months.

Exclusion Criteria

  • •Individuals with a history of lower extremity musculoskeletal injury within the previous six months.
  • •Known skin hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to acrylic adhesives.
  • •Current use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), analgesics, or antioxidant supplements.
  • •Application of external recovery modalities, including massage or cryotherapy, during the study period.

Arms & Interventions

Kinesio Taping (KT)

Experimental

Application of Y-shaped kinesio tape to the quadriceps femoris muscle with 25%-50% tension immediately after the fatigue protocol.

Intervention: Kinesio Taping (Device)

Non-Taping Control (N-KT)

No Intervention

Participants complete the fatiguing protocol without any taping application during the recovery period.

Outcomes

Primary Outcomes

Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)

Time Frame: Baseline (0 hour), 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours post-exercise

Assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), where scores range from 0 (no pain) to 10 (very severe pain).

Secondary Outcomes

  • Squat Jump Performance(Baseline (0 hour), 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours post-exercise)
  • Joint Range of Motion (ROM)(Baseline (0 hour), 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours post-exercise)
  • Thigh Circumference(Baseline (0 hour), 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours post-exercise)
