Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •Male blood donors in the age group of 18\-30 years and 45\-65 years and meeting all other criteria for whole blood donation as per guidelines laid by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI).
- •Thalassemia children receiving blood transfusions at Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh only.
- •Thalassemia children in the age group of 3\-9 years.
Exclusion Criteria
- •Blood donors not meeting eligibility criteria laid down by the DCGI.
- •Male donors between 31\- 44 years of age.
- •Female blood donors.
- •Thalassemic children having \- Clinical evidence of hypersplenism
- •\- Presence of auto antibody
- •\- Presence of unidentifiable alloantibodies
- •\- Fever / acute infection
- •\- Congestive Cardiac Failure (CCF)
- •\- If volume of transfusion required is \<100 or \>600ml.
