Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Male blood donors in the age group of 18\-30 years and 45\-65 years and meeting all other criteria for whole blood donation as per guidelines laid by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI).
  • Thalassemia children receiving blood transfusions at Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh only.
  • Thalassemia children in the age group of 3\-9 years.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Blood donors not meeting eligibility criteria laid down by the DCGI.
  • Male donors between 31\- 44 years of age.
  • Female blood donors.
  • Thalassemic children having \- Clinical evidence of hypersplenism
  • \- Presence of auto antibody
  • \- Presence of unidentifiable alloantibodies
  • \- Fever / acute infection
  • \- Congestive Cardiac Failure (CCF)
  • \- If volume of transfusion required is \<100 or \>600ml.
