Review of the Effectiveness of Telemedicine for Pre-anaesthetic Check-ups in children having Elective Surgery

Brief Summary

This is a randomised comparative study in which we will be comparing the efficacy of telemedicinewith in-person pre-anaesthetic evaluation for paediatric patients  of age 3-12 years undergoingelective surgery. We will be assessing thenumber of visits/video calls required to get preliminary anaesthesia clearance in Group T (TELEMEDICINE) and Group C ( CONVENTIONAL), taking a total sample size of 70, 35 in each group. Our  secondary objectives include rate of cancellation ofsurgery, the concordance of pre-anaesthetic checkup of visiting anesthesiologist(A2) with preliminary pre-anaestheticevaluation, and parents/guardiansatisfaction on preliminary PAC clearance.

Inclusion Criteria
  • 1.Parents/Guardians who have access to any of the devices like smart phone, computer with camera, tablet.
  • 2.Children or Guardians who are able to read and write.
Exclusion Criteria
  • 1.Auditory impairment in the child or guardian 2.Children or guardians who do not speak local language Hindi/English.
  • 3.Psychological disorder in the child or guardian.
