•Patients who come to medicine OPD at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Delhi between the age group 35-60 years and are diagnosed as hypertensive by the physician or who have previously been diagnosed as hypertensive by a physician and are on diuretics (thiazides or furosemide) for three or more months.
•And similarly age and sex matched controls, who are hypertensive but not on diuretics.

•1.Patients with preexisting ear conditions/hearing impairment
•2.Patients with history of any ear surgery
•3.Patients on other known ototoxic drugs or have any history of ototoxic drug use namely:
•Aminogylcosides - amikacin,kanamycin,tobramycin
•Platinum compounds - cisplatin
•Alkaloids- vinblastine and vincristine
•Antiepileptics - valproic acid
•Glycopeptides - vancomycin
•4.Patients with history of exposure to loud noises e.g. occupational exposure to loud noises.
