Effect of Ayurvedic Management of Allergic Rhinitis in Children A Single Arm Interventional Clinical Study

Allergic Rhinitis is one of the prime diseases of respiratory system found in all age groups irrespective of gender. Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is the most common atopic condition, affecting about 10 to 30 percent of adults and up to 40 percent of children worldwide. The conventional medical treatment of Allergic Rhinitis involves the use of antihistamines, antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), analgesics, and even corticosteroids, depending on the severity and recurrence of the disease. However, repeated and prolonged use of these medications can lead to various complications such as sedation, gastrointestinal disturbances, weakened immunity, antibiotic resistance, and other systemic side effects, thereby raising concerns about their long term safety and sustainability. Limitations of long-term antihistamines and corticosteroids in children, and considering the chronic relapsing nature of AR. Ayurveda provide holistic approach in management of AR. In Ayurveda there are multiple formulations are described for management of Pratishyaya. Interventions such as Pathyadi Kvatha, Balacaturbhadra Churna, and Yavani Dhuma Nasya may offer safe, and sustainable alternatives. The Ayurvedic principles targeting Nidana (causative factors), Samprapti (pathogenesis), and Dushyas (affected tissues) is warranted for effective prevention and management. Assessment will be done using general evaluating score and Total Nasal Symptom Score before and after treatment and the results will be analyzed statistically using Students paired t test.
