• Best corrected visual acuity of 6/12 or better, with spherical refractive error
between â?? 3 diopter to + 3 diopter and a cylindrical correction within 3 diopter
• Normal anterior chamber depth and open angles
• No history of intraocular surgery, except cataract surgery after the 1 st post-
operative month
• Willing to give written informed consent
The participants will be included into one of these four groups:
CASES (Patients with Glaucoma)
Group 1 â?? Glaucoma and no diabetes
Newly diagnosed and review patients of POAG and NTG without any history of
systemic illness and no clinically detectable fundus pathology other than
glaucoma.
Group 2 â?? Glaucoma and Diabetes
Newly diagnosed and the patients presenting for review visits with POAG or
NTG, with type 2 diabetes mellitus of any duration, without any other systemic
illness and having no clinically visible diabetic retinopathy changes.
CONTROLS (Patients without glaucoma)
Group 3 â?? Controls without diabetes
1. Individuals with no history or evidence of any retinal and eye pathology.
2. Individuals with no optic disc damage clinically and no history of any systemic
or neurological diseases capable of causing visual field loss or optic disc
deterioration.
3. IOP <= 21 mmHg measured on applanation tonometry
4. Open Angles
Group 4 â?? Controls with Diabetes
1. New or review patients with history of type 2 diabetes mellitus of any duration
having no clinically visible diabetic retinopathy changes.
2. IOP <= 21 mmHg measured on applanation tonometry.
3. Open Angles
Patients with any media opacity including corneal opacity, cataract greater than
nuclear cataract of grade NO3 and NC3, Cortical cataract of grade C3 and
Posterior subcapsular cataract of grade P3 as per Lens Opacification
Classification System III 8
• Any retinal or macular pathology.
• Systemic illness other than type 2 diabetes mellitus
