入选标准

  • Children 24 months up to 59 months
  • Children with hemoglobin level 7 to <11 mg/dl
  • Currently residing in the study area, Tulla sub-city of Hawassa city administration, having lived in the study area for at least 6 month prior to the study and who are planning to continue to be there for the next 1 year.
  • Guardians provide informed consent and the children ascent.

排除标准

  • ¿Children with chronic illness like HIVAIDS, tuberculosis, cancer and any other unspecified chronic illness
  • ¿Severely malnourished children < -3 Z score
  • ¿Children who are taking iron supplements
  • ¿Children who got a blood transfusion in the last 6 months
  • Children who are unable to collaborate (any somatic or mental disability making collaboration difficult more than expected for the age range)
  • Children with repeated malaria who are diagnosed as positive for malaria at least 3 times the last 3 months
  • Any suspected hematological disease

Importance of prolonging iron supplementation in anemic women of childbearing age - TREAT STUDYIron Deficiency Anaemia is a common pathology which concerns less than 5% of women aged 15 to 49 years old in the western countries but can affect up to 30% of the world population, knowing that 9 to 10 anaemic patients live in developing countries. Treating at least 3 months allows to normalize haemoglobin but it is important to carry on the iron treatment in order to fully replenish the iron stores.
