Aim of the study is to find the COMPARATIVE EFFECT OF SHOCK WAVE THERAPY
AND LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY WITH DYNAMIC
LOADING EXERCISE OVER CONVENTIONAL
EXERCISE PROGRAM ON ROTATOR CUFF TENDINITIS on rotator cuff
tendinitis.
BACKGROUND:
Shoulder pain is the third most common musculoskeletal complaint encountered in clinical
practice. Out of that, rotator cuff tendinitis is one of the causes of shoulder pain. The
symptoms of rotator cuff tendinitis include pain and swelling in the shoulder area, limited
motion or weakness of the arm. Rotator cuff tendinitis usually occurs over time after repeated
stress on the rotator cuff.
METHODOLOGY:
Study Design: experimental study
Study Type: Comparative type (pre and post type)
Study Setting: Out patient department, Faculty of Physiotherapy, Acs Medical College And
Hospital.
Sample size: 175 subjects
Group A: :Extracorporeal shock wave therapy with dynamic loading exercise
programme.
Group B: Low level laser therapy with dynamic loading exercise programme.
Group C: ultrasound with dynamic loading exercise program.
Study Sampling Method: Simple random sampling method
Study Duration: 1year
selection Criteria:
Inclusion criteria:
Patients with clinically diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis will be fully considered for
inclusion with any restrictions.
Age group between 18-60 years.
Gender (both male and female).
Painful arc syndrome, Positive empty can test, History of clinical signs of chronic
tendinitis for more than 6 months.
Patient between Body mass index of 19-25 kg/m2.
Exclusion criteria:
Pregnant women
Blood coagulation disorders.
History of surgery, History or presence of tumors.
Cardiac disease.
Frozen shoulder.
Systematic diseases.
Skin disease.
Cancer.
Severe mental disorders.
Recent fracture and dislocation.
OUTCOME MEASURES:
Pain
Muscle tissue morphology (Muscle tissue thickness in mm).
Functions of shoulder joint.
Range of motion – shoulder abduction/latera
MEASUREMENT TOOLS:
Blood Test-Serum Cortisol
Ultrasonongram
Shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI)
Digital electronic goniometer.
