The inclusion criteria were chronic obstructive pulmonary patients with
-age more than 40 years
-smoking history of more than 10 pack-years
-history of exacerbation at least one time in the previous year.
Patients were excluded if they had
-history of exacerbation during the previous 6 weeks before the enrollment
- pneumonia or history of admission to the hospitals during the previous 3 months
- long-term oxygen therapy
- co-morbidities that limited their exercise tolerance
- a negative attitude toward the programme.
