Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •Study population (n \= 80\)
- •\- Age \> 40 years
- •\- COPD as defined by GOLD criteria (post\-bronchodilator FEV1/FVC \< 0\.7\)
- •Control population (n \= 20\)
- •\- Age \> 40 years
- •\- Normal pulmonary function determined by standard spirometry
Exclusion Criteria
- •Study population
- •\- History of acute exacerbations of COPD within the past 3 months
- •\- History of thoracic surgery
- •\- Known diaphragmatic paralysis or chronic neuromuscular disease
- •Control population
- •\- History of thoracic surgery
- •\- Known diaphragmatic paralysis or chronic neuromuscular disease
