patients aged 14 years or older; patients of both sexes; patients who needed periodontal treatment; patients that they were in their first appointment at the college clinics; patients with 12 or more teeth present; patients who presented, on the initial examination, 30% or more of dental faces with plaque in the Visible Plaque Index (IPV) and 30% or more of faces with gingival bleeding in the Gingival Bleeding Index (ISG) 28.
patients smokers; patients former smokers; diabetics; women who were pregnant or breastfeeding; patients who had used antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs in the last 3 months; patients who used orthodontic appliances; patients with impaired mobility; illiterate patients.

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method It is expected to improve patients' knowledge about periodontal diseases, their prevention and treatment, assessed through a knowledge assessment test - Initial assessment test, with 30 questions to mark right, wrong or no I know ”and the repetition of this same test - Final evaluation test, between 4 to 5 weeks after the receipt of a Printed Educational Material, when it will be verified if there was an increase in the number of correct answers issued by the patients in this final evaluation test.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method It is expected that there will be a reduction in the BTI (Visible Plaque Index), ISG (Gingival Bleeding Index) and FR (Retentive Plaque Factors), after 4 to 5 weeks of receiving the Printed Educational Material, which will be verified by calculating the average percentage of sites for IPV and ISG and FR in the final exam compared to the initial.
