简要总结
Reaction time (RT) measures how quickly an organism responds to any input. RT is defined as the period of time between the introduction of the stimulus and the emergence of suitable voluntary reaction in the individual.Age-related differences in psychomotor performance are often assessed in aging research using choice reaction time (RT) activities
Cognitive functions, especially the ones for motor function, deteriorate with age and require more concentration for their completion. Dual tasking (DT) is the simultaneous execution of two activities, which are often cognitive and/or motor tasks of varying complexity
Task performance may decrease under DT situations as a result of conflicting demands, a lack of attentional resources, or an inability to divide these resources amongst ongoing tasks. Our knowledge of how aging affects cognitive task performance at varying degrees of dual task difficulty is still limited
There is a dearth of knowledge regarding the relationship between older individuals’ cognitive status and reaction time performance, despite the wealth of research on the subject in general.
The study examines the relationship between choice reaction time performance and cognitive status in older persons, providing insights into early cognitive decline markers for healthy aging and successful interventions.
RESEARCH QUESTION**:**
Does choice reaction time performance have an effect on cognitive status in older adults
ALTERNATE HYPOTHESIS (H1) :
There is no significant effect of choice reaction time performance on cognitive status in older adults
NULL HYPOTHESIS (H0) :
There is significant effect of choice reaction time performance on cognitive status in older adults
AIM OF THE STUDY**:**
The primary aim of the study is to find the relationship of choice reaction time performance on cognitive status in older adults
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY**:**
To assess the reaction time and task switching ability in older people using choice reaction time task
To assess the cognitive status of older adults using MOCA scale
