Patient age = 18 years
- no palliative medical treatment by a consiliary
And presence of at least one of the following trigger factors:
- Length of stay = 30 days in intensive care unit
- Age 80 years or older and two or more relevant comorbidities
- Admission (more than twice) to intensive care unit during same hospital stay
- Performing a tracheotomy
- Diagnosis of intracerebral hemorrhage with mechanical ventilation
- Patient age < 18 years
- Length of stay < 72 hours in the intensive care unit
- Palliative consultation before study enrolment

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method The primary outcome is the family satisfaction care in the intensive care unit. This is determined using the FAMCARE 2b Scale, which is distributed to relatives at three different points in time (initial, 7 and 30 days after enrolment).
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Secondary target parameters are the time spent in intensive care unit and lethality. These data are deter-mined on the basis of the patient record.
