简要总结

Background: Social media has emerged as a powerful educational tool due to its wide reach, accessibility, and ability to deliver quick, engaging content. Oral health, an integral component of general well-being, greatly influences childrens quality of life, confidence, and social interactions. Despite existing school-based oral health programs, oral hygiene practices among adolescents remain suboptimal. Short, visually stimulating video content reels on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp may offer a novel, effective method of improving oral health awareness and practices in schoolchildren.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of social media based short reel educational content in enhancing oral health knowledge, attitudes, and hygiene practices among 12 year old schoolchildren.

Methodology: A quasi-experimental study will be conducted among 380 schoolchildren aged 12 years, recruited from seven schools through stratified convenience sampling. Five schools will constitute the intervention group and will receive structured, evidence-based oral health education through short reel content disseminated on social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp. The control group, comprising two schools, will receive a conventional chairside educational talk without social media reinforcement. Data will be collected at baseline and post intervention using a validated questionnaire assessing knowledge, attitude, and practices KAP, along with clinical evaluation of oral hygiene using the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified OHI-S.

Expected Results: It is anticipated that children in the intervention group will demonstrate statistically significant improvements in oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices compared to the control group. A reduction in mean OHI-S scores post intervention is expected, supporting the effectiveness of short reel content in reinforcing oral hygiene behavior.
