All patients aged between 18-85 years, planned for midline laparotomy for gastric carcinoma or benign gastric outlet obstruction.
Patients with peritonitis, chronic use of analgesics, history of drugs or alcohol abuse, neuropsychiatric disorders, ASA grade 4, known allergy to study drug, diabetics, cardiorespiratory compromise, on thrombolytic therapy, patients requiring post operative mechanical ventilation or sedation, contraindication to epidural anaesthesia and failed to understand or sign the informed consent.
