Inclusion Criteria

All the patients who are more than 18 years of age and preoperatively - cT3 or 4 N0-3 M0 (according to AJCC, 8th edition) undergoing open total or subto-tal gastrectomy for locally advanced gastric adenocarcinoma, with ECOG performance status 0 or 1

Exclusion Criteria

1.Received neoadjuvant therapy.

2.Patients with co-existing uncontrolled comorbidities.

3.Recurrent carcinoma of stomach.

4.Presence of other coexisting malignancy.

5.Other types of gastric cancer such as lym-phoma, GIST, carcinoid tumor.

6.Emergency gastrectomy for bleeding or per-forated gastric cancer.

Primary Outcome Measures

To compare the effect of extensive intraperitoneal lavage with surgery & surgery alone on the incidence of surgical site infection in patients undergoing D2 gastrectomy for locally advanced carcinoma of stomach.Timepoint: Upto 30 days from the day of surgery.
Secondary Outcome Measures

1.Postoperative pain (using Visual Analogue Scale) <br/ ><br>2.Gastrointestinal (GI) complications such as: <br/ ><br>a.Bowel obstruction/ileus. <br/ ><br>b.Anastomotic leak. <br/ ><br>3.Non-GI complications such as: <br/ ><br>a.Pulmonary complications (atelectasis, pleural effusion, Pulmonary thromboembolism). <br/ ><br>b.Deep vein thrombosis (DVT). <br/ ><br>c.Pneumonia. <br/ ><br>4.Reoperation. <br/ ><br>5.Readmission rates within 30 days <br/ ><br>6.Mortality within 30 days of surgery <br/ ><br>Timepoint: Upto 30 days from the day of surgery.
