Exclusion Criteria

for patient dataset:
(a) Non-consent or inability to perform acupuncture treatment at P6.;
(b) Inability to participate in standardized telephone survey;
(c) Emergency surgery (reason: it can not be ensured that the survey before the surgery (measurement time 1) will be completed and acute stress prior to emergency surgery does not adequately ensure comparability of results);

Primary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
To address the main hypothesis, the coping style will be assessed as the primary outcome measure. This personality-related characteristic is measured using the standardized validated psychometric test procedure Coping Inventory for Dealing with Stressful Situations (acronym: CISS) (Kälin & Semmer, 2020; German-language adaptation of the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations). The individual scores on the three scales (task-oriented coping, emotion-oriented coping, and avoidance-oriented coping) are converted into T values by using evaluation tables. This involves a classification into the Gaussian distribution of the representative sample for normative comparison (reference sample). It will be examined whether the values on the above-mentioned three scales deviate significantly from the norm (Gaussian distribution of the reference sample). T-tests are used for this purpose.
Secondary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
The survey includes other personality-related characteristics:
(a) Life orientation;
(b) self-efficacy expectancy.

The following secondary outcome describes the link between the hospital setting and acceptance of acupuncture treatment by hospital staff:
(a) Dependent variable: expectancy of hospital staff;
(b) Independent variables: Characterization of the hospital setting.
