Inclusion criteria
-20 years to 70 years
-clinically diagnosed for nonalcoholic liver disease
-diagnosed for fatty liver by ultrasonography or CT
-serum ALT or AST is greater than 40 IU/L
Exclusion criteria
-alcohol intake (> 140g/week in man, >70g/week in woman)
-diabetes requiring insulin therapy
-immuno-suppressive therapy (ex. steroid)
-serum creatinine of 5.0 mg/dL or greater
-hepatitis B as defined by presence of hepatitis B surface antigen
-hepatitis C as defined by presence of HCV-RNA or positive hepatitis C antibody
-any suspicion of other liver disease such as autoimmune hepatitis
