Inclusion Criteria

cirrhotic patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding who underwent esophagograstroduodenoscopy within 24 hours after symptom presentation.

Exclusion Criteria

1. underlying disease of neurological disease
2. presence of hepatic encephalopathy at the time of admission
3. history of lactulose usage within 6 weeks before
4. severe co-morbidity such as acute kidney injury, active cardiopulmonary disease
5. history of alcohol ingestion within 7 days before
