Effects of multidimensional hyperkyphotic corrective exercise on thoracic kyphotic angle, trunk extensor muscle strength, and balance during walking in women with postural hyperkyphosis
- Conditions
- Women aged 45-65 years old with postural hyperkyphoticPostural hyperkyphosis, Multidimensional hyperkyphotic corrective exercise, Thoracic kyphotic angle, Hip joint position sense, Trunk extensor muscle strength, Balance
- Registration Number
- TCTR20230724004

- Brief Summary
MHCE reduces TKA and improves hip JPS more effectively than CHCE. However, there was no statistically significant difference on trunk extensor muscle strength, hamstrings muscle length and balance during walking between these two groups.

1. People with postural hyperkyphosis which had usual TKA of 40 degrees or greater and ability to straighten up the trunk to decrease their usual TKA by 5 degrees or more while standing, as measured by a flexible ruler.
1. People with structural hyperkyphosis which had a usual TKA of 40 degrees or greater and inability to decrease their usual TKA by 5 degrees or inability to straighten their trunk while standing.
2. Inability to walk or use walking aids
3. Presentation of history of spinal fracture
4. Presentation of an arthritic disease
5. Presentation of serious medical conditions that would limit participation in the measurement or exercise program (including uncontrolled hypertension, cardiopulmonary disorder, vestibular disorder, neurologic disorder, or musculoskeletal disorder)
6. Presentation of history of spinal or hip surgery
7. Current use of sedative or hypnotic medications
8. Pregnancy
9. Participation in exercises that would correct trunk posture (such as Yoga, Pilates, or weight training)

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Thoracic Kyphotic Angle before and after exercise intervention of 8 weeks Thoracic Kyphotic Angle was measured by a flexible ruler that placed over the spinous process C7-T12
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Trunk extensor muscle strength before and after exercise intervention of 8 weeks measured by hand-held dynamometer (MicroFET2) ,Hip flexor muscle length before and after exercise intervention of 8 weeks using a modified Thomas test ,Hamstring muscle length before and after exercise intervention of 8 weeks measured by passive knee extension test ,Hip Joint Position Sense before and after exercise intervention of 8 weeks measure angle of hip flexion and extension by an analogue inclinometer using the active active reproduction technique ,Functional gait assessment score before and after exercise intervention of 8 weeks measured by the Thai version of Functional Gait Assessment
