Inclusion Criteria

Children between 3-12 years of age with diagnosis of Perthes Disease made and presented to the Perthes Clinic at Kasturba Hospital as part of standard care of management

Children who presented at stage 1 and stage 2

Those who underwent treatment (operative and nonoperative)

All children (age group 3-12 years, both gender, unilateral/bilateral) presented at stage of avascular necrosis and at stage of fragmentation are treated. The children less than 7 years are treated with non operatively without presence of extrusion, children younger than 7 years with presence of extrusion are treated with containment procedure. The children older than 7 years are treated with surgical containment (varus derotation osteotomy). All are followed up prospectively till healing of the disease. Avascular necrosis is defined where the epiphysis becomes sclerotic with or without loss of the height of capital femoral epiphysis. The stage of Fragmentation is defined as one or two fragmentation from the subchondral bone to the physis in either view. The Stage of Remodelling is where early new bone formation is formed and healed stage is where femoral head is fully reossified. The duration of the disease is calculated from first radiograph of first day of presentation to healing. All children will be assessed clinically and radiologically at the stage of healing.

These variables will be assessed clinically: range of movement of both hips, Trendelenburg test, shortening, ability to sit cross legged and squat, genu valgum and genu recurvatum.

Exclusion Criteria

Children who presented at stage 3 and 4 initially

Those who refused treatment ( operative and non operative)
