The vestibular system plays a crucial role in maintaining balance, postural control, and gaze stability through its interaction with the visual and proprioceptive systems. Gaze stabilization is primarily mediated by the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), which enables clear vision during head movements. Alterations in visual input, such as those seen in individuals with myopia, may influence vestibular function and visual–vestibular integration, potentially leading to reduced dynamic visual acuity, postural instability, and impaired functional performance. Prolonged use of optical correction in myopia has been suggested to induce adaptive changes in retinal image motion, which may affect vestibular responses and gaze control.

Gaze Stability Exercises (GSEs) are a key component of vestibular rehabilitation and are designed to enhance VOR adaptation, improve eye–head coordination, and optimize visual–vestibular interaction. Although GSEs have demonstrated effectiveness in individuals with vestibular hypofunction, limited evidence exists regarding their impact on vestibular function and visual performance in the myopic population.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured gaze stability exercise program on vestibular function in individuals with moderate to high myopia. Using an experimental pre-test–post-test control group design, eligible participants aged 18–40 years will be randomly allocated into an experimental group receiving gaze stability exercises along with ergonomic advice, and a control group receiving ergonomic advice alone. The intervention will be administered over a period of six weeks.

Outcome measures will include vestibulo-ocular reflex gain, static and dynamic visual acuity, accommodative power and range, and functional outcomes related to activities of daily living. Pre- and post-intervention assessments will be conducted to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. The findings of this study are expected to provide evidence on the role of gaze stability exercises in improving visual–vestibular function and functional performance in individuals with myopia, thereby contributing to the development of targeted rehabilitation strategies for this population.

入选标准

  • • Adults (both males and females) aged 18–40 years.
  • • Diagnosed with moderate to high myopia (-3.00 D or greater) and must use corrective spectacles or contact lenses since 5 yrs 8 hrs /day.
  • • No history of vestibular disorders, neurological conditions, or balance-related issues.
  • • No prior participation in vestibular rehabilitation therapy.
  • • Ability to follow instructions and perform the exercises.

  • • Individuals with a history of eye surgeries (e.g., LASIK, cataract surgery).
  • • Use of medications affecting vestibular function (e.g., sedatives, antidepressants).
  • • Known inner ear pathologies (e.g., Meniere’s disease, labyrinthitis).
  • • Severe systemic conditions affecting mobility (e.g., musculoskeletal disorders).
  • • Presence of any congenital eye anomalies like aniridia, coloboma.
