Comparing the Effects of Virtual Reality-Based Exergaming and Muscle Energy Technique on Pain, Functional Disability, and Kinesiophobia in Young Adults with Acute Neck Pain

The outcome measures in this study will include pain intensity, neck disability, and kinesiophobia. Pain intensity will be assessed using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Neck disability will be evaluated using the Neck Disability Index (NDI), a validated questionnaire that measures the degree of functional limitation experienced due to neck pain in daily activities. To assess the psychological aspect of pain, particularly the fear of movement, kinesiophobia will be measured using the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK), which quantifies movement-related fear.

This randomized comparative study will compare the effects of virtual reality based exergaming and muscle energy technique, both given with a hot pack, on pain, functional disability, and kinesiophobia in young adults with acute neck pain. Participants aged 18 to 29 years with acute nonspecific neck pain will be randomly allocated into two groups. The virtual reality group will receive hot pack followed by VR exergaming sessions, and the muscle energy technique group will receive hot pack followed by MET for key cervical muscles. Interventions will be provided for two weeks. Outcomes will include pain intensity, neck disability, and kinesiophobia measured before and after treatment to determine which intervention is more effective.

入选标准

  • Participants with acute nonspecific neck pain of 1 to 3 weeks duration and NPRS score greater than 3.

排除标准

  • History of recent neck surgery or trauma, neurological deficits or cervical radiculopathy, radiating pain or vertigo, current use of muscle relaxants or NSAIDs, or any systemic condition affecting the cervical region.
