Inclusion Criteria

  • Elderly patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty under general anesthesia were screened for inclusion.
  • The inclusion criteria were as follows:
  • 1. The age of the patients ranged from 65 to 85;
  • 2. American Association of anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status - class II and III;
  • 3. Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) >= 24 points;
  • 4. Agree to use patient-controlled intravenous analgesia pump.

Exclusion Criteria

  • 1. Patients who are unable to communicate because of severe visual or hearing impairment;
  • 2. Patients who refuse to sign informed consent;
  • 3. Simultaneous knee arthroplasty;
  • 4. Patients with preoperative delirium or Parkinson's disease;
  • 5. Patients with recent history or conventional acupuncture treatment;
  • 6. Patients with severe renal failure (Grade 6) need dialysis.
