Inclusion Criteria

Patients belonging to American Society of Anaesthesiologist Grade I and II, posted for elective surgery under general anaesthesia

Exclusion Criteria

Patient refusal

Patient with known allergy to study drug

Patients with history of recent myocardial infarction ( <3 months), uncontolled hypertension, bradycardia, heart blocks, heart failure

patients with epilepsy, hepatic failure, psychiatric disease, sepsis or systemic infections, neurological disease

patients with major illnesses like bronchial asthma, chronic cough, upper respiratory tract infection 2 weeks prior to surgery

patients who had received analgesics or sedatives within previous 24 hours
