Inclusion Criteria

The inclusion criteria for the subjects with CAI were: having at least one significant ankle sprain associated with inflammatory symptoms; having recurrent sprains at least twice on the same side; having the feelings of giving way in activities at least twice in the past 6 months without any inflammatory symptom; reporting CAIT score <24; aging between 20 to 50; being trained regularly 2 times a week for at least 2 hours each time, or 4 hours a week in total amount.

Exclusion Criteria

The exclusion criteria were: having an injury history of lower extremities or lower back with inflammatory symptom within the past 3 months; having fracture or surgery history of lower extremities, thoraco-lumbar spine, or rib cage; diagnosed with balance or vestibular disorders; having a concussion in the past 6 months; diagnosed with cardiopulmonary disorder, scoliosis, ankylosing spondylitis, or any other disorders that can affect or alter the function of respiratory system.
