- Brief Summary
:Injury to the nerves following thyroidsurgery is more common among the complications evaluated. Accurate and timelyevaluation of vocal cord function relieves the stress of both surgeon and anesthesiologistalong with optimizing ongoing management. Conventional direct laryngoscopy isthe commonly used tool for vocal cord assessment during extubation in thyroidsurgeries.Videolaryngoscopes, the new entrant in the airwayarmamentarium, are not well researched as an equipment to prognosticate extubationin thyroid surgery. Appropriate visualization and assessment of vocal cordsduring extubation with videolaryngoscopes can be useful for record keeping anddocumentation. This study was therefore conducted to compare the conventionaldirect laryngoscopy with prototypes of channeled and non-channeledvideolaryngoscopes – Airtraq and McGrath respectively for extubation in thyroidsurgery.
