1.Individuals aged 20-30 years for group I (Gingivitis group).
2.Individuals aged 30-50 years for group II (Chronic periodontitis group).
3.Periodontally healthy subjects with atleast 20 teeth with no attachment loss and probing depth <=3 mm (Gingivitis group).
4.Subjects diagnosed with chronic periodontitis (Probing pocket depth>=5 mm and loss of clinical attachment >=3mm).
5.Subjects who have not received periodontal therapy, within preceding six months.
1.Patients with history of systemic diseases that could affect the periodontium.
2.Smokers.
3.Patients on immunosuppressive agents.
4.Pregnant and lactating women.
5.Subjects who have received any anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics in the previous six months.
6.Diseases of oral hard and soft tissues except caries and periodontal disease.
7.Patients on orthodontic appliances and oral mucosal inflammatory condition.
