Effect of Dental Health Education on awareness and preparedness for the management of avulsed teeth among Fire Fighters- An interventional study

This interventional study aims to evaluate the effect of a structured dental health education program on the awareness and preparedness of firefighters regarding the management of avulsed teeth. The study will be conducted among firefighters working in fire stations in Erode District, Tamil Nadu. A total of 105 participants will be selected using convenience sampling. Baseline knowledge will be assessed using a structured, pretested questionnaire covering concepts of tooth avulsion, replantation, emergency procedures, handling of avulsed teeth, appropriate storage media, and willingness to perform replantation.

Following the baseline assessment, participants will receive a structured 20 minute dental health education intervention consisting of a lecture and demonstration on the emergency management of avulsed teeth. Knowledge will be reassessed immediately after the intervention and again after 3 months to evaluate knowledge retention. Data will be analyzed by comparing knowledge scores at baseline, immediately post-intervention, and at follow-up.

The findings of this study are expected to demonstrate an improvement in awareness and preparedness among firefighters following the educational intervention. The results may highlight the importance of incorporating structured dental trauma education into routine training programs for firefighters, thereby contributing to improved emergency care and better prognosis for avulsed teeth in trauma situations.
