Children younger than 19 years old with swallowing difficulties who underwent VFSS from February 2012 to July 2014 were recruited in this retrospective study. All of the enrolled children were evaluated by neuroimaging involving more than one brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and/or ultrasonography (US). Children who showed swallowing difficulties due to diseases of the central nervous system (CNS), cardiopulmonary diseases (CPD), and congenital syndromes or delayed development (DD) of unknown etiology were included. CNS diseases were verified via abnormalities on a brain MRI or US.
Children who had incomplete medical records or who were not evaluated by brain MRI or US were excluded.
