Adjuvant partial enteral nutrition in acute Severe Ulcerative Colitis : a randomized comparative trial with standard of care

入选标准
- •Those with acute severe ulcerative colitis diagnosed on the basis of Modified Truelove and Wittââ?¬•s criteria
排除标准
- •Patients who deny consent
- •Age ââ?°Â¤ 18years
- •Pregnant and lactating women
- •Presence of toxic megacolon as defined by transverse colon diameter more than 5.5cm on abdominal X-ray
- •Infective exacerbation
- •Presence of dysplasia or any indication for surgery
- •Patients who are deemed to require surgery in next 48 hours
- •Diagnosis is uncertain like Crohnââ?¬•s or indeterminate colitis
- •Disease extent: E1 disease (15cm or less)
- •Very low BMI ( <15 kg/m2)
- •Very high risk of refeeding syndrome (prolonged fasting i.e > 3 days OR low energy diet i.e less than 50% of calorie requirement for > 7 days OR dyselectrolytemia in form of serum K of < 3 meq/L or phosphate < 2 mg/dL or Mg < 1.5 mg/dL)
