Overview
Brief Summary
This qualitative research explores the real-life experiences of caregivers assisting bedridden neurological patients, particularly during patient transfers such as moving from a bed to a wheelchair. In India, many caregivers are untrained family members who often face significant physical and emotional challenges. The study aims to investigate caregivers’ knowledge of proper transfer techniques, the tools they use, and how caregiving impacts their physical health—such as back or shoulder pain—as well as emotional well-being, daily life, and relationships. Conducted at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, the study involves in-depth interviews with caregivers, using a self-prepared questionnaire explained thoroughly during the session. Participants are fully informed about the procedure, and informed consent has been obtained. The number of participants is not fixed, as data collection will continue until saturation is reached. Interviews will be audio recorded, transcribed verbatim, and stored securely on a password-protected device or hard disk to maintain confidentiality. The final stage of the research involves compiling a comprehensive report that presents the findings in a clear and meaningful narrative.
