Brief Summary

The causes of *Sthaulya*according to Ayurveda are over eating, *adhyashana*, *kaphavardhakaahar*–*vihara*, *avyayama*, *divaswapna*, *harsha (achintan)* etc. Due to life style and lack of self awareness, peoples are affected with various disorders, one of them *Sthaulya* is more common in present era. India is currently most susceptible country to Sthaulya due to food habits and life style. In *Ayurved, sthaulya* has been described very early days in various *samhitas, sangraha, granth* etc. As *Charak* has described *sthaulya* among the eight most unwanted disease1 and *santarpan janita roga*2. Main responsible factor of *Sthaulya* are *kled kapha*, *saman vayu* and *vyan vayu meda* (fat/lipid) and *medo-dhatvagni mandyata.*A large number of drugs are indicated by *Acharyas* in each and every disease. The logical application of these spectra according to the different stage and conditions of the patient and disease is the prime key for the suitability of that drug in a given disease. In this study we are selected the *eranda kshar* for clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of the *erandakshar* in *Sthaulya*. *Eranda kshar* prayog is the contribution of *bhaishajya ratnawali* special indication in *medoroga* (*sthaulya*)3

Sthoulya is a major risk factor for serious non-communicable disease as CVS, DM, HTN& various diseases. Several medicines are available for management of sthaulya but results are not promising.Ayurveda considers Sthaulyaroga as a disease due to over nutrition. Due to global effect of this disease which also includes huge number patients from our own country, so need of treatment is essential for society to achieve standardization of life with health.
