Brief Summary

The skin covers the external surface of the body and is the largest organ in both surface area andweight. It is metabolically active with vital function protection and maintaining homeostasis of thebody. There are many conditions that affect skin. Acne is one type of skin related problem. AcneVulgaris is an extremely common condition with a lifetime prevalence of approximately 85% andoccurs mostly during adolescence.Acne vulgaris can persist into adulthood, with a 50.9% prevalencerate of acne in women ages 20 to 29 years versus 26.3% in women ages 40 to 49 years.-Acne is the major problems at the puberty age. In Conventional Medical treatment there is nosatisfactory results seen in its treatments and has different adverse effects on the body like rednessand dryness of skin, skin irritation, skin discoloration, loss of appetite, hepatotoxicity, etc. So it isthe need of hour to use natural non-toxic remedies to bring the skin into normal state., So it isnecessary to study the normal physiology of Twacha for understanding the pathology of Yuvanpidakaand its management.SELECTION OF DRUGAyurveda has a great potential in the management of Yuvanpidaka and its associated complications.Keeping in mind the etio-pathogenesis of Yuvanpidaka, Manjistha Churna should be used whichstimulates Dhatwagni. Its Kapha-Pittahara properties pacify the aggravated Kapha, Rakta and VataDosha. Acharya Vagbhatt recommends Lepa as first line of treatment. Lepa is beneficial in terms ofits time duration, easy administration and cost effective.Many texts HHmentioned medications for Yuvanpidaka which need to be tested and validatedscientifically. Different Acharyas have indicated different Lepa, Raktasodhak medication andSiravedha Karma in Yuvanpidaka. Acharya Sushruta has advised Lepa, Sodhan therapy, SiravedhaKarma in Yuvanpidaka. ..The formulations Lodhradi Lepa and Shalmalikantak lepa with possess properties required for themanagement of Yuvanpidaka. So, after reviewing the literature and keeping in mind the DoshaDushya of Yuvanpidaka, these drugs have been choosen for the study.AIM - To study Physiology of Twak and Effect of Lodhradi lepa and Shahlmali kantak lepa inthe management Yuvan pidaka.OBJECTIVES1) To study the physiological concept of Twak with special reference to Yuvanpidaka.2) To evaluate the efficacy of Lodhradi lepa in Yuvanpidaka.3) To evaluate the efficacy of Shalmalikantak lepa in Yuvanpidaka.4) To compare the efficacy of Lodhradi lepa and Shalmalikantak lepa in Yuvanpidaka.HYPOTHESISNULL HYPOTHESIS (H0)There is no difference between the role of Lodhradi lepa and Shalmalikantak lepa in Yuvanpidaka.

  • 1.Subject in the age group of 18-40 years irrespective to sex.
  • 2.Subject with sign and symptoms of Yuvanpidaka .
Exclusion Criteria

Known case of any systemic or skin diseases.
