Patients 18 years of age or older who are scheduled for regular pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreas or periampullary tumors
- open surgery with midline incision
- ECOG 0~1
- Patients must be able to understand the procedures of the clinical trial and to properlly fill out questionnaires
- American society of anesthesiologists physical status classification 1-2
- ECOG >2, ASA >3
- In case of other severe pain not related to the main disease, which cause confusion in pain evaluation
- Patients with chronic pain with any pain medication, antidepressants, anticonvulsants
- Alcoholics
- Resection of other organs (liver or colon) during surgery
- previous abdominal surgery except laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscpic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic gynecology surgery, and Cesarean section
- hypersensitive to fentanyl or ropivacaine
- Patients with coagulation disorder or who cannat discontinue anticoagulant
- Patients who cannot control the Patient controlled device (cognitive disorder, delirium)
- Any skin problem or infection on abdominal wall
- Other major medical or mental problems that may affect the postoperative treatment
- Patients who need ICU care or ventilation
- Pregnants or women in lactation
- Patients whom the person in charge of the study thinks not appropriate for this study
