Children were diagnosed with FC if they met Rome IV criteria: at least 1 month of two or more of the following criteria:
(1) two or fewer defecations per week;
(2) history of pain/hard bowel movements;
(3) history of large-diameter stools;
(4) presence of a large fecal mass in the rectum;
(5) history of excessive stool retention. In toilet-trained children, additional criteria include at least 1 episode/week offecal incontinence and history of large-diameter stools that may obstruct the toilet.
Infants under 9 months of age, excluding other health problems, difficulty in defecating should be considered if forced defecation lasts longer than 10 minutes.
Constipation due to diagnosed organic diseases, acute infectious diseases, skin diseases, allergy to laxative drugs, long-term use of drugs that induce constipation, and mental diseases.
